No new Covid deaths for the second day

-

THERE have been no coronavirus deaths recorded in East Yorkshire hospitals for the second day in a row.

That means there have now been three deaths at Hull Royal Infirmary or Castle Hill Hospital in the past two weeks as the casualties ease.

The last recorded death was announced on Tuesday, which means there have been 203 deaths within the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The latest data was released by NHS England yesterday.

Despite the welcome slowdown in death rates the trust’s has continued to guard against complacency and, this week, announced two Covid-19 wards were being built at Hull Royal to prepare for a second wave.

Firing a warning, chief executive Chris Long said: “Although the number of patients dying in our hospitals is stabilising, we must never forget the devastation Covid-19 has already caused to so many families.

“No one should use the slowing of the death rate as an excuse to ignore the measures in place to reduce the spread of infection.

“If we are to stand any chance of avoiding a second wave, we must follow the guidance to keep our community as safe as possible.”

Meanwhile, A further 22 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals to 28,991, NHS England said.

The patients were aged between 53 and 94 years old and one person, aged 77, had no known underlying health conditions.

Another six deaths were reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.
