A BUSY East Riding petrol has reopened having been for more than a year.

The former Giles Garage in Withernsea shut last year when the site was sold.

However, it is now welcoming drivers once again after its state-of-the-art redevelopment.

The unmanned site will be accessible 24 hours a day in the seaside town, with bosses saying they are confident customers will appreciate its convenience with no shop to hold people up. station closed

“It’s taken a lot of hard work from architects, builders and contractors to get where we are,” Tom Naylor, director of Dean Dugdale said.

“We feel that Withernsea is a great opportunity. It is a busy town, the centre of local life, and it needs a place for residents and visitors to buy fuel.

“The existing shop was too small to be viable and Withernsea does not lack for alternatives. Unmanned petrol stations are convenient, safe and fast. There is no queueing and no children wanting sweets. We are confident locals are going to enjoy good-value, topquality fuel.”

The site reopened on Friday after its ribbon was cut by Graham Giles, the son of the original owner.

The popular figure assembled with his nephews, Matthew and Chris, and sister, Audrey. His brother, Les, a long term Withernsea resident, was unable to attend due to health reasons.

It was first built around 80 years ago, primarily as a repair station that had two pumps out to the front. It was turned into a petrol filling station with convenience shop in the 1980s, with four pumps, which remained the case until last year when it was sold to the present owners, Dean Dugdale Ltd.

A full refurbishment, including a new 80,000 litre tank, has been undertaken over the last three months.
