Maybe David signed it with his gloves on!

FOOTBALL FAN URGES GOALKEEPING LEGEND TO ‘COME CLEAN’ OVER ‘SIGNED’ PHOTO HE LISTED ONLINE

A MAN from Hull whose supposedly signed photo of David Seaman went viral has called on the goalkeeping legend to “come clean”.

Bill Kirby, 35, listed the portrait of the 1990s football hero on Facebook market place for just £5 last week.

Cynical social media users were quick to pounce on the fact it appears Seaman had misspelt his own name in the printed handwritten message which simply reads: “All the best, David Seman.”

But Bill remains coy about the story behind how he came to own such an exquisite piece of sporting memorabilia.

“I’ve had it for ages,” he said. “I can’t remember where I got it. I just acquired it. I’m always in charity shops so I’ve obviously just seen it and thought ‘that’s good.’”

The item prompted a huge debate between Twitter users and it wasn’t long before Seaman himself waded in, retweeting the photo with the comment: “Signed by who???!!!”

Responding to devastating allegations that the signature may have been faked, Bill remained adamant he believes the writing is that of the former England star and said there are various possible explanations for Seaman’s error.

“There are a few theories, really,” he said.

“I think he was probably just in a bit of a rush when he did it, maybe he had his gloves on? I don’t know what the story is but it could have been something like that.”

“If Seaman could come clean and say that he did write it or if he was to provide a fresh one where he can actually remember doing it that would be great.”

Seaman’s retweet has since received more than 1,000 replies, 6,500 retweets and 70,000 likes.

Bill said: “It got quite divisive with some people saying it is a fake and some saying the other way and winding them up.

“It’s kept me entertained, but I can’t believe where it’s got to I’m looking at articles written in Chinese with my picture on there. It’s insane.”

Bill has since decided to list the photo on ebay with 95 per cent of the proceeds going to the homeless charity Shelter (Bill said he wants to make sure he is covered for postage and packaging but will donate any money left over to charity).

He said: “We’re all really privileged to share this silly story in the comfort of our own homes. Its worth just having a bit of reality check sometimes.”

I think he was probably just in a bit of a rush when he did it
