No Covid-19 deaths for 5th day in a row
THERE have been no coronavirus deaths recorded in East
Yorkshire’s hospitals for the fifth consecutive day.
Although lower numbers are generally reported on weekends due to delays in processing figures, the latest data reveals that Hull and the East Riding are continuing to report an improved picture.
Several people are still losing their lives nationally each day, however, it is now approaching a week since the last death was reported across either Hull Royal Infirmary or Castle Hill Hospital.
The last recorded death was announced last Tuesday, which means there have been 203 deaths within the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The latest national death figures were released yesterday afternoon, revealing that 15 more lives have been lost to Covid-19 across England.
29,066 people have died in the country altogether.
It is more positive news for
East Yorkshire, however, it is not a reason to ignore the risks the virus poses, according to Chris Long, chief executive of Hull University Teaching Hospitals
NHS Trust.
“Although the number of patients dying in our hospitals is stabilising, we must never forget the devastation Covid-19 has already caused to so many families,” he said in a statement released last week.
“Huge numbers of families have been affected and their lives will never be the same again. Our thoughts have been with them since the very start of the outbreak.
“No one should use the slowing of the death rate as an excuse to ignore the measures in place to reduce the spread of infection.
“If we are to stand any chance of avoiding a second wave, we must follow the guidance to keep our community as safe as possible.”
Across the UK’S four nations, around 289,000 cases have been confirmed. Of those, nearly
45,000 have lost their lives.
