THE heartbroken family and friends of Mollie Stansfield paused for a two-minute silence to remember, exactly a year since her tragic death.

Mollie, 22, took her own life on July 10 last year when she was found on the ground at the bottom of Princes Quay’s seven-storey car park.

To mark the end of the family’s difficult first year without Mollie, her mum led a ten-mile charity pony trek to raise money to support Mysterious Minds, a mental health charity.

During the round trip between Dunswell and Beverley, the group stopped to remember their “loyal and caring” friend and family member with an emotional two-minute silence.

Dawn Stansfield was moved to tears during the moment of reflection, to which the Mail were invited.

More than a dozen people gathered in Swaby’s Yard in the town to honour Mollie, before the silence began at 2.07pm, the time that she took her own life.

The group have so far raised more than £1,000 for the Mysterious Minds cause, which aims to “support those left behind”.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s walk Mollie’s mum said: “Grieving the loss of a child is a process. It begins on the day your child dies and ends the day we join them.

“If sharing this story can help just one family I feel we will have achieved something.

“Mollie was such a lovable character, always so polite and respectful, and everyone loved and liked her.

“She had a colourful, lively character and was always the life and soul of the party.

“She was fiercely loyal and protective of those she loved too.”

Mollie had lived with mental health problems from a young age, which only worsened in her teenage years.

She had reported hearing voices and selfharmed, as well as threatening to take her own life on a number of occasions.

Dawn said the day Mollie took her own life was “the day that our lives as we knew it changed forever”.

“One year later the news that brought me to my knees rings in my memory as if it was yesterday,” she said.

“Mols was beautiful, popular, talented and so loved by her many friends and family members, but she never believed it.

“My husband and I had to try and come to terms with the most brutal outcome as a parent, we could not save her.

“You always think these things won’t come knocking on your door and that ‘it happens to other people.’ And then one day your world is shattered into a million pieces.”
