Passion to succeed key at Kingswood

- By DEBORAH HALL

KINGSWOOD ACADEMY’S story of success is one that just keeps on mounting.

Earlier this year, it was unveiled as the 16th best school in the country, reflecting a remarkable achievement when being judged against more than 6,000 other secondary schools.

The placing of the academy at the top of the table for the region in the Real Schools Guide 2020 is another feather in the cap for the hardworking staff and talented students at Kingswood.

Headteacher Richard Westoby said: “I am delighted on behalf of all the staff and the students. Kingswood has been one of the highest performing schools in Yorkshire for quite a few years now, and our aim continues to be to make it the best school in the country – and there is no reason that should not be the case.

“We are absolutely passionate about our students going on to live happy and successful lives and our phenomenal team of teachers and leaders are making that a reality.

“We are very passionate about our students recognising their academic worth and them going on to the highest performing and most well respected colleges, universities and world-class employers.”

Kingswood Academy, in Wawne Road, Bransholme, part of the Academies Enterprise Trust, celebrated its best set of GCSE results in 2019 and was recognised nationally early in 2020, with Department of Education statistics revealing it was ranked as 16th best out of 6,274 other schools.

Not only is the academy ranked top in Hull for both Progress 8 and Attainment 8 – the two key measures that the Department for Education uses to measure school performance – Kingswood is now in the top 0.2 per cent of schools nationally for Progress 8 (within the top percentile).

Richard Westoby said the

Kingswood Academy approach also focuses heavily on ensuring that all students develop an exceptional character and that they leave with high levels of cultural and global awareness.

“We want our students to be able to go into any social situation, to be confident, and be able to add value,” he said.

“We are very much about developing the whole child and ensuring that they leave us ready to thrive on a global stage.

“Ultimately, though, we are passionate about ensuring that all students leave our academy with a raft of positive memories of school that truly last for a lifetime.”
