A15 crash near Humber Bridge leaves lorry driver in hospital

-

A LORRY driver was taken to hospital after a crash that brought the A15 to a standstill.

The HGV struck three cars on a slip road which accesses the northbound carriageway, close to the Humber Bridge.

The route was shut for several hours causing major delays while emergency services attended the scene.

The incident happened shortly before 4.45pm on Tuesday.

None of the occupants of the cars were injured and the lorry driver was taken to hospital as a precaution after receiving medical attention at the scene.

One of the cars involved had the family of Radio Humberside presenter, Andy Comfort, inside, who were shaken but thankfully OK.

Mr Comfort was hosting his afternoon show when he received an update about the crash and a call from his wife.

On the show he said: “I have been on the phone to my wife who was involved with the kids in the car. Thankfully, they are fine but are shaken up.

“It appears the driver of the lorry may have had a medical episode.”

The incident was cleared and reopened to all traffic at around 7.45pm according to the bridge’s Twitter account.
