THERE was naturally huge disappointment when it was announced that Hull Fair 2020 won’t take place due to coronavirus – the second time in its 742-year history

But lovers of the fair will still be able to get a fix of their favourite Hull Fair sweet treats, thanks to a well-known and popular stallholder.

Generation after generation of Cole’s Family Funfair have pitched their stall in Walton Street for decades, but this October its employees will bring everything from brandy snap and nougat to fudge, candy floss and toffee apples direct to people’s doors.

The family-run business is now taking orders via Facebook, and will deliver throughout Hull Fair week in October – with payment on delivery.

Ashley Liddell, an employee who came up with the idea, said: “The Cole family are regular vendors at Hull Fair and after the disappointment of having the fair cancelled, we decided to go ahead and attempt to provide some kind of service wherever possible as we understand how people look forward to the event year on year.

“In many cases we see the same faces come to the stalls year on year and if this means we are able to provide them some kind of adapted service which we would usually deliver at the fair, we felt as though we would at least try and see if we could do something.

“The service will work by people choosing items off our item list, which is based on what we would usually stock at Hull Fair, or simply place an order for an assorted box of the Hull Fair Classics, which are priced at £20.

“The feedback has been amazing, people are so excited to already have opportunities to order some of the treats that they look forward to every year.”

The traders have a price list which they say are the same prices as they usually charge at the fair, or offer an assorted box for £20. Orders £20 and over will be delivered free. Orders under £20 will incur a £1 delivery fee.

And the news has gone down well on Facebook after being shared on the Hull Fair facebook page.

One customer said: “I’m excited about this.”

Another said: “You can get your brandy snap after all.”

Another said: “Could still maybe get that important candyfloss.”
