Mum’s anger over parents who refuse to distance on the school run

CONCERN AT OVERCROWDING NEAR GATES

A FURIOUS Hull mum says parents will only have themselves to blame if there is a coronavirus outbreak at school - because their lack of social distancing skills on the school run are an “absolute joke”.

The mum says the parents “who all know each other” gather in large crowds at the school gates and seem completely “oblivious” to any kind of social distancing rules.

The parents can apparently be heard saying the virus “isn’t real”, and despite the best efforts of the teachers at Adelaide Primary School in Walker Street, west Hull, they refuse to stick to any social distancing rules.

So far there have been cases of coronavirus in eight primary schools, four secondary schools and two colleges across Hull and the East Riding.

The mum of two, who does not wish to be named, said she believes Adelaide Primary School will be next.

She says the problem is so bad she considered removing her children from school, but does not feel “clever enough” to home-school them longterm.

“It really does need sorting out, it’s so bad,” She said. “Buses drive past and you see people on them looking and shaking their heads as they must look and think ‘wow, where is the distancing?’ It’s awful.

“These parents just don’t care at all about anyone apart from themselves, all laughing and joking that it’s a joke, saying this virus isn’t real, it’s ridiculous. Something needs doing about as it’s putting so many people at risk.”

The mum said she has shared her concerns with the school.

She said: “I have complained to them and all they say is ‘we’re doing our best.’ It’s not good enough at all.

“Because they all seem to know each other they just don’t care and stand around chatting in big groups.

“It is a absolute joke at the moment, no one is social distancing at all. The teachers tell the parents all the time but they just don’t listen.

“You actually get stuck in crowds, all going through the same gates. It’s getting to a point I don’t want to take my kids as no one seems bothered at all, no masks worn.

“I honesty feel like there will be cases at my children’s school soon due to lack of social distancing. You can see the teachers getting angry.

The mum said her daughter even trampled on this week in playground by another mum.

She said: “A woman came out of the gates, walking backwards towards us chatting away to someone, she just didn’t stop, she actually stood on my child’s foot, so I put my arm out to stop her and pushed her back, she looked at me and said ‘why?,’ so I told her what she had done, she was oblivious to it.

“She just looked at my child and carried on talking, I walked away a little to the side as I was so angry. It’s so annoying when we are trying to protect ourselves and others and there’s all them not bothered at all.”
