Dad ‘struggled to cope’ after his father died

-

A Dad-of-two tragically died in his East Yorkshire home after his life spiralled into substance abuse and depression following the death of his father.

Daniel Cullen Moore, 29, passed away at his address in Hazel

Grove, Goole, on March 25, 2020.

At an inquest into his death, Hull Coroners’ Court heard how toxicological results showed morphine levels in his blood to be at a lethal range as well as traces of cocaine, alcohol and diazepam.

Area coroner professor Paul Marks noted how Mr Moore “struggled to cope” losing his father to cancer in 2016.

He said: “He had an excellent relationship with his father who sadly died of cancer in 2016.

“Daniel was very seriously affected as a result of this bereavement and became down and depressed.

“It would appear that he started to abuse drugs, including narcotics, and engaged in binge drinking almost certainly as a response to the loss of his father.”

On March 22 and March 23 Mr Moore was with friends in Goole, where they had been drinking and taking drugs.

This continued the following day and into the early hours of Wednesday, March 25, at the Eastgate flats in Goole.

At around 3am Mr Moore left his friends and returned to his home address in Hazel Grove.

One of his friends attempted to contact him, calling and texting him on several occasions, but received no response.

His friends visited the property at 6.25am and discovered Daniel unresponsive in the downstairs bathroom.

Emergency services were called and attended the property, but there was nothing they could do and Mr Moore was pronounced dead at 7.15am.

Area coroner professor Paul Marks recorded a verdict of drug/ alcohol related death.

He said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to extend my condolences to all members of Daniel’s family at their sad and unexpected loss.”
