Dad tragically found dead in bathroom of East Yorkshire home
A 64-year-old dad was found unresponsive by his wife in the bathroom of his Bridlington home.
Brian Banks tragically died at his address in Long Lane on January 3.
At an inquest in to his death at Hull Coroners’ Court heard how he had lethal levels of alcohol in his blood at the time of his death, as well as a high concentration of citalopram.
Senior coroner Professor Paul
Marks noted that Mr Banks had a “serious problem” with alcohol, sometimes consuming up to 60 units per day.
Mr Banks also suffered from hypertension and had a history of depression.
On the morning of January 3, Mr Banks’s wife woke up before walking through to the bathroom, where she found her husband sitting on the toilet in a dressing gown, leaning slightly forward.
The court heard Mrs Banks had found him in this position on “many occasions” in the past, but was alarmed by the paleness of his skin.
Upon further investigation, she found Mr Banks to be unresponsive and called the emergency services before beginning CPR.
Paramedics arrived at the house at 5.31am and worked on Mr Banks for some time, but he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
Coroner Marks recorded a conclusion of drugs/alcohol-related death and said: “The conclusion of this court is that Brian Alan Banks died as a result of drugs/ alcohol.
“The high concentration of alcohol coupled with the citalopram allows me to return this conclusion.
“I’d like to extend my condolences to members of Brian’s family at their sad and unexpected loss.”
