TIGERS’ EIGHTH SUMMER SIGNING

- By JAMES SMAILES james.smailes@reachplc.com @James_smailes

HULL City are set to complete their eighth signing of the summer after agreeing a deal with Sheffield United for midfielder Regan Slater.

The 21-year-old Blades academy graduate will join the Tigers on a season-long loan deal and is expected go into the squad for Saturday’s League One clash against Plymouth Argyle at the KCOM Stadium.

Slater has made just three senior appearances for Chris Wilder’s side, his debut coming back in 2016 in the

EFL Trophy, followed by a Championship and FA Cup debut in late 2017 and early 2018 respectively.

The youngster has spent the last two seasons on loan at Carlisle United and Scunthorpe United, making 41 appearances for Carlisle in their League Two campaign and 15 the following season with the Iron in the same division.

Well regarded in

Sheffield as a rising star with plenty of potential, the Blades have allowed Slater to continue his education under Grant Mccann, with City increasing their midfield options further.

Having already brought in Greg Docherty and Richie Smallwood, as well as adding wide men Thomas Mayer and Hakeeb Adelkun, Mccann has plenty of options at his disposal after seeing a host of midfielders depart last season such as Jackson Irvine, Kevin Stewart, Leonardo de Silva Lopes and Jon Toral.

Mccann had told the press following the win at Northampton Town that a medical had been completed for a player from a Premier League club, with sequent reports in Liverpool that the Tigers were closing in on Ben Woodburn.

There is no word if Woodburn still remains on City’s radar, but with just over two weeks of the domestic transfer window open the Tigers have plenty of time to add to their squad.
