CITY CENTRE SURGE IN COVID-19 CASES
AREA JUMPS FROM JUST THREE CORONAVIRUS CASES TO 26 IN A WEEK
HULL city centre has seen a massive e leap in coronavirus cases according g to the latest Public Health England d map.
The map, which provides s seven-day rolling figures, reveals s the particular areas that have been n hardest hit at a local level and it t shows the city centre has seen a nine-fold increase.
The map shows the number of f cases in England within small areas s that have an average population of f 7,200 people.
Most of the hardest hit areas have so far been in the East Riding with Hull areas remaining below ten.
But that all changed in the latest figures, between September 24-30, with ith the th city it centre t jumping j i f from just three cases to 26.
That means it is by far the worst area in East Yorkshire, overtaking Pocklington, which has itself risen from f 11t 11 to 14 cases.
Areas highlighted in grey have two cases or fewer and those light blue have had three or more cases reported in this week.
The darker shades of blue are r representative of higher numbers o of cases with the city centre now a w worryingly dark shade.
Cases have risen dramatically r recent, in part due to a “technical g glitch” which has seen missed cases a added in the last couple of days.
Also reaching double figures f for cases are Brough (11), the Walkington, Bishop Burton and Woodmansey area (10) and Stamford Bridge (10).
Bridlington East had ten recorded on Sunday, but that has fallen to nine.
The next worst area in Hull is the University ward with eight cases while Kingswood is next with seven.
As cases have increased, hospital admissions and subsequent deaths from coronavirus are also on the rise again.
There have been three deaths recorded in the past week at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital, bringing the total to 215, although none were recorded on Sunday or yesterday.
Yesterday there was a large rise in cases across Hull which now stands at 1,974 with a rise of 27 and a rate of 759.4.
In the East Riding there are 2,344 cases with a rise of 62 and a rate of 759.9.
