Year bubble sent home after pupil’s Covid test

It has also become aware of a “small number” of confirmed cases of coronavirus within families of pupils in Year 9, the school’s headteacher confirmed.
Headteacher Patrick Sprakes said following this latest news on Friday it was closing its Year 9 bubble as a precaution yesterday and today.
On Friday, he said the school was awaiting further test results and that further steps would be communicated to families next week.
Mr Sprakes said: “We will continue to give pupils isolating at home access to learning, via our Google Classrooms.”
Helen Christmas, Hull City Council’s public health lead for children and families reminded families of the main symptoms.
“We are working closely the school to provide advice guidance,” she said.
“We would like to remind families that the main symptoms of coronavirus are a high temperature, a new, continuous cough and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.
“Most people with coronavirus have at least one of these symptoms. If you have symptoms you should isolate immediately and book a test.”
It comes after the school said on Thursday that a member of its community had tested positive for the disease.
In a letter written to parents and carers, the school’s headteacher, Mr Sprakes said the person who has tested positive for coronavirus had not attended school in the past week.
He added that they did not display any symptoms while at school.
At the time, Malet Lambert said that after contact with the Department of Education and the local Public Health team no further action was required from the school and no pupils or staff members should isolate.
In the letter, the headteacher said: “I write to inform you that I was made aware this morning that a single memhas confirmed one tested positive for with and
ber of the Malet Lambert community has tested positive for Covid-19.
“The individual concerned has not attended school in the past week and had not displayed any symptoms while in school.
“Following comprehensive direction from both the Department of Education and the local Public Health team, no further action is required from the school and no staff or pupils are required to isolate.
“The health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff is of paramount importance.
“Thank you once continued support unprecedented times.”
A parent who contacted the Mail on Friday shared a letter from the school addressed to parents and carers of Year 7, 8, 10 and 11.
Part of the letter read: “If your child develops symptoms of Covid-19, they must not come to school and should remain at home for at least ten days from the date when their symptoms appeared,” it said.
“Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via the website or by calling 119.
“All other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. This includes anyone in your support bubble”.
