Kingston take derby bragging rights

-

THE first competitive derby of the season saw Kingston Hull FC take the bragging rights against Warriors FC in a Under-15s Drypool League clash at Shelley Avenue.

Having lost both pre-season friendlies, Kingston changed tactics against a team they’d only beaten once in the past nine games.

The first 25 minutes was a tight affair with chances limited, Jake Frederick once again proved his worth, clearing up any danger in its infancy whilst marshaling his defence at every opportunity.

The game’s opening goal belonged to Kingston when Calum Hepworth used his blistering pace down the right wing to beat two defenders and cross in for Jake Hayes to tap home from two yards out.

Three minutes later Kingston doubled their lead when Hayes headed in from a long throw for his second.

Warriors tried hard to get back into the match but Kingston’s stubborn defence wasn’t going to buckle, constantly thwarting any danger to go into the break 2-0 up.

Warriors came out for the second half looking to get a goal back but once again Kingston kept them at bay with some solid defending.

At 2-0 Kingston always had the game in their grasp but on 32 minutes they made sure of it.

A route one goal kick from Frederick beat the Warriors’ defence to see Hepworth latch on to and fire in from inside the area.

Kingston could have had a couple more goals when two corners in as many minutes first saw Tonijs Padrevics have a shot cleared off the line then Hepworth hit the post with a powerful header.

Warriors tried hard for a consolation goal but

Kingston held firm to ensure they kept a clean sheet to make it three from three in an outstanding team performance.

Jake Hayes, Reinis Truksane and Tommy

Merckel just pipped their team-mates to the man of the match awards with special efforts.
