New special school a ‘centre of excellence’
HYBRID SCHOOL FOR UP TO 56 PUPILS
A SPECIAL school is being built in east Hull for primary aged pupils with social, emotional and mental health issues.
The school is for up to 56 pupils and will be run by Venn Academy Trust, and will be located in Saltshouse Road on the site of the former White House pupil referral unit.
Known as the Euler Academy, it will be a “hybrid special school” for children with special needs and will open in the 2021-22 academic year.
Euler Academy will cater for pupils from Years 1 to 6 and will create 26 jobs.
Contractors are now on site preparing for the new build and a public consultation is under way.
Venn Academy Trust’s chair of the board, Terry Johnson, said: “This is fantastic news for Hull and something we have been working towards for some time now. 56 children a year will benefit from a place at a school dedicated to meeting their needs, making a huge difference to their lives and those of their families.
“We aim to deliver a school that will serve Hull and neighbouring local authorities.
“Working together with our partners we will create a school that will be recognised as a centre of excellence, providing a curriculum that will meet the needs of all its pupils, a school that will make those associated with it extremely proud.”
The building will operate over two storeys, with the youngest children occupying the ground floor and the older children occupying to the first floor.
There will be an outdoor games area with football and basketball markings and soft play areas.
There will be eight classrooms and a main hall, along with offices and a dining area upstairs.
