NEW APPLE MAPS LAUNCHES IN UK

APPLE has brought its mapping app up to par with its US version with a big upgrade to the service.

The biggest change is in the level of detail you’ll find – terrain is more clearly marked, so you have a much better idea about what kind of surface each area has.

There’s also a lot more detail in the 3D modelling of buildings and landmarks.

The Look Around feature is also added for London and Edinburgh, and is coming to more cities soon.

The other big addition is a section called Curated Guides, which offers detailed suggestions about things to do in various locations – all put together by third-party providers like Time Out and Lonely Planet.

Among a whole host of other enhancements, cycling navigation – for London initially – is also added.

It’s a solid upgrade of an app that had a rocky start in life, but is now up there with the best.

And it’s a free upgrade that should be delivered to your ipad, iphone and Mac automatically.

MICROSOFT’S NEW SURFACES

MICROSOFT continued to expand its already solid hardware line-up this week with a new and cheaper version of its Surface laptop – which it is calling it the Surface Laptop Go.

It’s a smaller device, with a 12.4-inch Pixelsense touchscreen display, costing £549.99 for the base model.

It’s powered by Intel’s 10th Gen i5 Quad-core processor with up to 16GB RAM and 256GB storage, and Microsoft claims 13 hours of battery life. In addition to the new laptop, Microsoft has also updated its Surface Pro X 2-in-1 tablet/laptop line-up with new colours.

There’s also a new range of keyboards and other accessories available in all-new colours.
