Drivers warned of road closures

-

DRIVERS are being warned that part of Anlaby Road will be closed this week.

Anlaby Road inbound from Trenton Avenue to the Calvert Lane junction will be closed to traffic from tomorrow.

Diversion signs will be in place via Boothferry Road.

The closure will be in place for up to four weeks, after a crack in the surface was unearthed during the ongoing improvement works.

Councillor Daren Hale, portfolio holder for economic investment and regeneration, said: “We have secured additional £4m funding from the government to undertake repairs to three key routes in the city to deal with concerns raised through the regular condition surveys we undertake.

“Once we had stripped off the surfacing materials the crack in the road surface was discovered. Due to the nature of the concrete failure, an emergency road

closure is required so these crucial repairs take place.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask that motorists are patient as these repairs take place, and in order to keep traffic to a minimum, we are reworking the phased programme to avoid any further closures.”

The work will reprogrammed so that phase five, which involved work to the inbound lane between Trinity House and Calvert Lane will be brought forward to mitigate the requirement for a further closure on this section. be

Works to lane will planned.

Councillor Hale said: “When carrying out any road improvement works in Hull, it is vital to remember that the city’s ground is extremely unique. Hull’s geology sits on a thin crust of soft clays, meaning that miles of concrete road essentially float on a soft ground underneath.

“This has to be taken into consideration when any repair works are carried out, as the road has to be reinforced to carry the volumes of traffic in the city.”
