East Riding actor a star on Netflix

BEN, 12, HAS A ROLE IN STREAMING SHOW

AN East Yorkshire child actor stars in a new Netflix series.

Actor Ben Ainsworth, 12, has a role in The Haunting of Bly Manor, Mike Flanagan’s follow-up to his hit retelling of Shirley Jackson’s classic, The Haunting of Hill House.

Ben, who is a member of East Riding-based Northern Lights Drama Theatre School, has previously appeared as a cheeky schoolboy on Emmerdale in 2018.

Northern Lights Drama, establishe­d in 2013 by Hannah Levy and Tilly Oakshott, has signed up hundreds of young people to its classes and placing a growing number into profession­al theatre, film and TV roles.

Tilly said: “In 2019, he spent nine months in Vancouver, shooting the Haunting of Bly Manor for Netflix under Mike Flanagan.

“His performanc­e as the orphaned, deeply troubled and volatile Miles Wingrave has earned him critical acclaim, recently described as ‘exceptiona­l’ and one of the ‘most delicate and captivatin­g performanc­es in a horror story ever captured’.

“During his time in Canada, he also concluded principal photograph­y on Disney+ feature film Flora & Ulysses in which he plays a young blind boy called William Spiver.

“This movie coming soon to around the world.

“Prior to this, he shot a short film/pilot called the Recycling Man, portraying an AI robot called Jacob.”

On stage, Ben has played William Beech in Goodnight Mister Tom, Kurt in The Sound of Music and Benji in the hit musical Priscilla Queen of The Desert.

He has also starred in TV commercial­s in Italy and Malta and played a small role in ITV’S Emmerdale.

In his spare time, Benjamin enjoys playing rugby and hockey and is a huge Liverpool FC supporter.

He also loves singing, song-writing, music producing and playing the drums. Benjamin is in high demand and his schedule for the rest of 2020 and 2021 is already filling up with some extremely exciting and high-profile projects in the works. will be screens
