Brid go second, Hall Road win

-

BRIDLINGTON Town moved to second in the NCEL Premier Division table with a 2-1 win over Barton Town.

The winning margin could, and possibly should, have been more with the Seasiders dominating the first half. However, all they had to show at half-time for their endeavours was an eighth minute goal by Joe Mcfadyen.

The move started from the back and when Will Annan’s pass set Benn Lewis away on the right, his low cross was turned aside by Billy Logan for Mcfadyen to find the net from 10 yards.

Just past the hour, Danny Earl’s left wing centre found Mcfadyen at the far post and he headed home his second despite goalkeeper Charles Dixon and two defenders being on the goal line.

Six minutes later Nathan Peat’s ball over two defenders found Luke Anderson on the left edge of the penalty area and Fraser Papprill’s lunge resulted in a penalty to the Swans and a booking for the Bridlington defender. Peat reduced the arrears by beating James Hitchcock from 12 yards.

In the remaining 20 minutes Peter Davidson hit the Barton bar and at the other end Josh Lacey drove narrowly over from 20 yards, but there was no addition to the score and the hosts held on to take all three points.

■ Hall Road Rangers put in a very impressive performance against Retford FC as they picked up a 2-0 win.

Rangers took the lead in the 41st minute as Chris Murray got on the end of a corner delivered into the Retford box and headed the ball into the back of the net.

Hall Road doubled their lead in the 71st minute when Rich Medcalf calmly slotted home after connecting with a Sam Robinson cross.

Rangers boss Leon Sewell was very pleased with his players and said:

“The lads were great. Retford are a good side with some good players. However, we dealt with everything they threw at us on a difficult pitch.”
