HULL’S hospitals have announced a coronavirus-related death for the first time in three days.

The latest death to be announced at either Hull Royal Infirmary or Castle Hill Hospital occurred on Monday, October 12, and was announced in the latest data released on Tuesday by NHS England.

The total number of hospital deaths within the Hull University Teaching Hospitals Trust now stands at 218.

It comes as it was announced a further 87 people who tested positive for coronavirus died in hospital across England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 30,594.

Patients were aged between 30 and 96 years old, NHS England said on Tuesday.

The deaths were between October 6 and October 12. Most were on or after October 10. Three other deaths were reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

Meanwhile, a total of 61 new cases were recorded in East Yorkshire, according to the latest government figures yesterday.

The number of cases in the East Riding area is now at 2,817, with the cumulative infection rate at 825.7 per 100,000 people.

There were also 43 new cases of coronavirus in Hull with the total in the city now at 2,266. The cumulative infection rate is at 872.3.

That means 5,083 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in our area since the virus first came to our shores.

The number of coronavirus cases in the UK has increased by 17,234 according to the latest government figures yesterday.

The overall number of cases confirmed in the UK is now at 634,920 according to the Government’s coronavirus dashboard.

On Tuesday, the Government also said a further 143 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19. This brings the UK total to 43,018. It comes after the Mail told how the alarming rise in cases has prompted the Government to bring in a new tier system of lockdown restrictions.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke to MPS in Parliament on Monday and then addressed the nation later, when he introduced a three-tier system of local Covid alert levels in England.

He confirmed the levels will be set at medium, high and very high and says this new system will be simpler and standardise.
