A HULL man raped a woman twice and told her “you’re loving it really” when she cried out, a trial has heard.

Mark Awty, 59, of Arcon Drive, Anlaby, is on trial at Hull Crown Court accused of two counts of rape and one of doing acts intending to pervert the course of public justice.

He denies all of the charges.

Mr Awty is accused of raping the same woman twice in January this year and then attempting to get her to retract her statement against him by telling her he would end his own life.

Prosecutors claim the dad-of-three also told the woman that him going to prison would affect his children, prompting her to feel pity for him and consider dropping the charges.

Prosecuting, Claire Holmes, told Hull Crown Court yesterday that the pair had had consensual sex but then Mr Awty started a sexual act that the woman did not consent to.

The woman claims she raped twice by Mr Awty.

Ms Holmes said: “She said ‘no’, which clearly indicated that she did not consent. She then said, ‘No, you’re hurting me’, to which he replied, ‘You’re loving it really’.

“Then he raped her again. She didn’t consent to that either. After that, he got dressed and made a cup of tea. She confronted him and said, ‘You hurt me, I said no’ and he said, ‘I’m so sorry’.”

The court heard the woman later confided in her sister, telling her, “He violated me”, and reported Mr Awty to the police.

Ms Holmes arrested and was then said that after he was interviewed, Mr Awty denied the rapes and claimed the sexual intercourse was consensual and his alleged victim had not said ‘no’.

He was advised to stay away from the woman, but she claims he called and texted her asking her to withdraw her statement.

The court heard Mr Awty contacted the woman a number of times up to February 15 this year about the investigation.

Ms Holmes told the court: “He said ‘I won’t go to jail. Are you going to drop the charges?’. He showed her that his car boot was full of paracetamol boxes and said ‘this is what I’m going to be doing. Will you drop the charges?’.

“She was worried because he had threatened to take his own life. He spoke about the effect him going to jail would have on his children.

“She said she had dropped the charges because of the pressure he was applying.

“Despite that, over the next couple of days, he continued to text her.”

The prosecutor said text messages between Mr Awty show admission of the rapes happening as well as evidence of him trying to persuade her to withdraw her statement.

Humberside Police officers visited the woman in February and she told them about the messages she had received from Mr Awty, Ms Holmes said.

“They became concerned about his safety and they found his car on Anlaby Road,” said Ms Holmes

“He was arrested and interviewed again and accepted he had been contacting the woman but said he was sorting something out. He denied asking her to drop the charges.”

The trial continues.
