Momentum key for Josh

-

JOSH Magennis says the importance of Hull City regaining their momentum with a comprehensive 3-0 win at Rochdale cannot be underestimated.

City boss Grant Mccann had demanded a response from his side following the disappointment of the previous week’s 4-1 defeat at Fleetwood Town, and he got one in style as his team cruised to a victory which moved them second in League One, a point behind leaders Ipswich Town.

The Northern Ireland international returned to first-team action after a hectic spell away with his country to score the third goal, adding to Mallik Wilks’ earlier brace.

Magennis bagged his second goal of the campaign two minutes after Wilks’ crisp volley made it 2-0, heading in George Honeyman’s inchperfect cross to add further gloss to a scoreline which could, and should, have been more emphatic.

“You know, it’s always nice for individual accolades and trying to try to get as many goals as you can, especially as a striker and for Mallik as well (is vitally important),” the 30-year-old forward said.

“I think the most important thing for us was the reaction from the disappointment of the Fleetwood game.

“I think it was massively important to get the momentum going again, it was a night that we didn’t want to remember.

“And the only way you sort of put those nights to bed is getting back to winning ways and we’ve done that in style.

“Rochdale are a good team, a good football team but I think our organisation and quality when it when it mattered was on top.”
