HIGHWAY maintenance teams are working “as quickly as possible” to reopen Anlaby Road Hull City Council has said after a resident claimed it was causing delays for hundreds.

A Hull City Council spokesperson said the road, closed for emergency works to mend its surface, would reopen within the next four weeks.

The spokesperson added residents should be patient in the meantime and apologised for delays and mounting traffic.

But a resident living on neighbouring Ingleton Avenue said the works meant Trenton Avenue was the only access road for hundreds of homes and Anlaby Acre Heads primary school.

The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, added the “narrow and congested” road was too small to cope, causing delays of up to 40 minutes.

The council spokesperson said temporary traffic lights put up during the works were being closely monitored and their timings altered to cut delays.

The spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, this emergency closure is necessary to ensure that these crucial repairs are undertaken, and we are working as quickly as possible so that we can reopen the road to motorists.

“We anticipate that the road will fully reopen within four weeks.

“A variety of repair methods are being used to ensure longevity and minimise future cracking.

“Cracks are exposed, ground out and sealed with specialist materials, and failed concrete road slabs are reconstructed and stitched into sound concrete using large steel pins.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask that motorists are patient as these repairs take place.”
