More coronavirus at schools in city
TWO north Hull schools have confirmed cases of coronavirus for the second time in a matter of weeks.
Parents of students at Winifred Holtby Academy, in Midmere Avenue, and St Mary’s College, in Cranbrook Avenue, received letters over the past couple of days confirming more cases of the virus.
Earlier this month, Year 9 pupils at Winifred Holtby Academy were encouraged to isolate.
Now, a member of staff has tested positive for the virus, but the school says they have “not had close contact with other staff or students”.
Headteacher Mark Brown told parents that pupils should attend school as normal.
His letter reads: “I am writing to inform you that we have received confirmation that a staff member of our school community has tested positive for Covid-19.
“The member of staff has not had close contact with other staff or students. We have followed the guidance provided by Public Health at all times.
“Your child should continue to attend school as normal.
“Following Government, Local Authority and Public Health guidance, the affected person and their family have now started their isolation.”
Sixth from students at St Mary’s College have been told they must self-isolate and not return until after the half-term break.
Parents received a letter on Wednesday confirming that a member of the post-16 community had tested positive for the virus. Therefore, year 12 and 13 students have been told isolate.
It is the fourth letter parents have received from the school regarding coronavirus cases in the past month.
Headteacher Mr Parry wrote: “Following confirmation of a further recent positive Covid-19 test result affecting our post-16 community, we have taken the decision to transition to remote learning for all students in year 12 and year 13 for the last two days of this half-term.
“Given the proximity to our scheduled break, this precautionary measure will allow an extended period away from the site for our post-16 learners and an opportunity for us to collectively reset and prepare for the next half-term.”
