IT is often seen as the harbinger of doom, but a Public Health England map also shows areas where coronavirus cases are falling or even being controlled.

While cases continue to rise nationally there are local areas where cases are falling as the map shows for the week between October 12 and October 19.

The country is peppered with shades of dark blue and maroon, but there are areas of green and even white, which means the virus is actually being suppressed.

One area in East Yorkshire where the virus appears to be suppressed is part of Holderness, which includes Bilton, Sproatley and Aldrough.

The white area means there have been fewer than three cases recorded over seven days.

Beverley South is a pale green and has seen five fewer cases in the past week compared to the previous week with eight cases.

Burstwick and Thorngumbald are a comforting shade of green and cases have dropped by three in the past week with six cases recorded.

There is also better news for Pocklington. It has been the hardest hit area of East Yorkshire and while it remains an ominous shade of maroon and still recorded 51 cases last week, it is a drop of ten from the week before.

In Hull, there is good news for the Avenues, which has seen cases drop by seven to just four in the past week.

Pickering and Anlaby Park has also seen seven fewer cases with 16 recorded in the past week.

Bricknell West has also seen one less case in the past week with five recorded.

But there is no complacency and the constantly changing.

The map shows Hornsea is now a hotspot with 37 cases this week, which is a rise of 17 from the week before.

Goole West is even worse with a huge rise of 29 cases in the last room for picture is week and now has 44 recorded.

Both areas have turned maroon with a weekly rolling rate beyond 400 per 100,000 of the population and is calculated by dividing the seven day count by the area population and multiplying by 100,000.

While the map identifies local hotspots it does not tell you why there might be a rise and whether there has been an outbreak or not.

Meanwhile, there was another sharp rise in cases across the region on Saturday.

There were 127 new cases recorded in the previous 24 hours in Hull which brings the total to 2,939 with a cumulative rate of 1,180.2.

In the East Riding, cases rose by 120 in 24 hours with the total now standing at 3,823 and a cumulative rate of 1,155.7.

The total of 247 of the biggest daily months.

coronavirus-related death was also confirmed at one of Hull’s hospitals.

Hull Universities Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust confirmed the latest death occurred on Friday at either Hull Royal Infirmary or Castle Hill Hospital.

The total number of hospital deaths in the two hospitals now stands at 225.

Nationally, the Government confirmed a further 23,012 people had tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total to 854,010.
