A MCDONALD’S employee in Hull who “couldn’t stop coughing” at work has tested positive for coronavirus.

The fast food giant has now confirmed that the staff member, who works at the Holderness Road restaurant, is self-isolating.

But one woman, who did not want to be named and whose sibling also works at the same branch, said she was “disappointed” with the fast food chain’s response.

“Many employees have vulnerable relatives at home who they are putting at risk through inconsiderate people,” she said.

She said the infected employee had travelled into work via public transport while displaying symptoms, before being sent home halfway through their shift after they “couldn’t stop coughing”.

A meeting was subsequently and all restaurant employees informed of the positive case.

Mcdonald’s said the east restaurant was then given held were

Hull “an enhanced clean as a precautionary measure”.

But the woman said she still had concerns that the restaurant had not been fully closed for a more thorough “deep clean”, pointing out that the infected staff member would have shared a headset with colleagues if they were working on the drive-thru lane.

“I’m really disappointed with Mcdonald’s. This staff member was also serving customers,” she said.

“[They] had travelled in on public transport, worked half a shift and because [they] couldn’t stop coughing went home again on public transport. Work for everyone else carried on as normal.”

A spokeswoman for Mcdonald’s said: “One employee at our

Holderness Road restaurant has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating.

“As soon as we were informed, the restaurant was given an enhanced clean as a precautionary measure and we contacted all restaurant employees.

“We have a number of safety measures in place to help keep our people safe, including Perspex screens, temperature checks at the start of each shift, maintaining a two metre distance from others as much as possible, face coverings, regular hand washing and the use of hand sanitiser.”
