Scott’s shown he’s one for the future, says FC coach Last

ANDY Last believes Hull FC youngster Cameron Scott has underlined the talent he possesses this season as he looks to earn a regular spot next year.

Scott has made four appearances since the Super League campaign restarted with the 21-year-old stepping in and providing valuable cover on the edges.

The outside back does have Super League experience after making his debut during FC’S injury-ridden 2018 season and he impressed when he was drafted into the side to face Wakefield Trinity last month.

Scott featured against Salford a fortnight later before taking on Castleford and Leeds at the start of October, grabbing his first Super League try against the former and Last believes he has done his hopes of featuring more no harm at all with his performances.

“He’s done really, really well,” Last said when asked about Scott’s stint in the side. “He’s gained confidence from playing and having a run of games. He’s also gained trust and confidence from his team-mates and I think Cam has taken a lot of confidence from the fact he looked comfortable in that Super League environment.

“What I’ve liked him about him is that he’s faced adversity in all the games. He had a tough first half against Wakefield up against Reece Lyne, who is an international player and an experienced player, and he rectified those things at half-time and put in a good second half.

“Against Salford he showcased his ability to play on the wing. He made a couple of tough reads defensively but learned from that and second half again he fixed those issues up.

“Against Leeds I thought he gave a real good account of himself. He carried the ball well out of back-field and showed some maturity. He had a tough night in terms of a couple of those cross-field kicks but when you look at them he probably didn’t get the necessary support to make them easy catches.

“I think he’s taken a lot of confidence from the games he’s played and as a coach I’m proud of what he did and confident that if we have to call on him again he’s more than capable of holding his own and excelling as a Super League player.”

With first-team opportunities looking hard to come by at the KCOM, Scott started the season on loan at Leigh.

His four appearances yielded four tries, including a hat-trick against Halifax, before lockdown brought an end to the season below the Super League.
