There’s no need to panic

-

THE first thing to make clear, is that there’s no need to panic after Hull City’s 2-1 defeat to Peterborough.

I’ve heard fans moaning about the manner of it, blaming tactics and the like - they got the bit of luck to score the winner, and at the other end, Mallik Wilks hit the post with his deflected effort - those are the fine lines in this game.

In truth, a draw would have been a fair result.

I’m not buying that United were worthy winners, they’ve had two efforts of note at goal and both went in, one of which needed a massive deflection.

Yes, City should have defended both better in terms of stopping crosses coming into their box, aside from that, however, I thought the Tigers played well against a side that you expect to be up there challenging for promotion.

They may have shaded possession in the game, however, most of it was played in front of City and didn’t really cause too many problems. City just got caught a couple of times and that’s something that happens.

There wasn’t much wrong with the performance and I think that’s a point worth making.

What Saturday does show is that you’re only ever as good as your strikers.

There were some good chances which fell City’s way, and they just didn’t take enough of them and ultimately, it cost them at least a point.

I firmly believe that Wilks has the ability to go and get 20 goals this season, his one at the KCOM was very good, very clinical and along with the others he’s scored so far, it shows he has the ability to score different types of goals.

He now needs to go and show he’s the player to fire the club back to the Championship, and prove he deserves to be playing at a higher level.

I’m a big fan of Keane Lewis-potter; he brings an awful lot to the table and while he’s only a young lad, he should be confident of hitting double figures, while Josh Magennis should be chipping in with a fair few.

Yes, the manager can tweak one or two things, but ultimately, if you don’t take the chances when they come your way, you are going to get these sort of results.

It’s a tough one, isn’t it? We moan when chances don’t come and City are not creating anything, here, they are coming and we’re still moaning. We have to remember City are in

League One and the players will miss chances that in the Premier League or Championship would be taken.

The time to worry is when the Tigers are not creating anything.

That’s the time to criticise Grant Mccann’s tactics, when they’re playing well and not looking like scoring, which, in truth, has rarely been the case up to now.

Let’s not get carried away with that defeat, and the one against Fleetwood.

It’s been a good start to the season, City are second, have won six out of eight and slowly but surely, they are putting the problems of last season to bed.

Peterborough, at this level, are a good side and like City, will be up there at the end of the season.

Take this on the chin, and move on.
