DRIVER ADMITS CAUSING FATAL M62 CRASH

MAN FACING PRISON AFTER TWO PEOPLE KILLED

A DRIFFIELD man is facing a prison sentence for causing a horrific crash which killed two men.

Jack Beston, of Duncombe Drive in Driffield, pleaded guilty to two counts of death by dangerous driving when he appeared at Hull Crown Court yesterday.

Beston was driving a caravan transporte­r westbound on the M62 near Goole on April 3, 2018, when it crashed through the central reservatio­n and collided with a black Lexus car travelling eastbound.

Nigel Eley, 41, and John-paul Cassidy, 37, were travelling in the Lexus.

The M62 was closed for more than 18 hours following the crash.

Mr Eley died at the scene and Mr Cassidy passed away in hospital ten days later.

Mr Cassidy was engaged to be married and left behind two brothers, parents and a large network of friends.

His family described him at the time as “loyal, generous, charismati­c and, above all, fun-loving”.

They said he would be sorely missed.

Mr Eley was a married father and a “dedicated” under-nines football coach in Urmston, n,

Greater Manchester. r.

He was described as a “genuinely great guy”.

Beston was charged in n September this year, two wo and a half years after the he crash, alongside Michael el Holgate, of Munstead ad Way, Brough, who was as charged with two counts nts of manslaught­er through gh gross negligence, two wo counts of causing death while uninsured and one offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Mr Holgate pleaded not guilty to all of the charges, apart from the offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act, for which a plea was not taken.

Mr Holgate will stand trial in

June next year.

Beston will be sentenced at a later date.
