A Far-right group that posted leaflets through the letterboxes of nearly 1,000 homes is “not welcome in Hull”, says a councillor.

Activists from the Patriotic Alternative boasted on Twitter after spending four hours on Saturday, October 24, posting leaflets about white supremacy in Hull.

Members posted leaflets with far-right theories that white Britons would become a minority by the 2060s and that the Government “wants to take away your freedom”.

Lib Dem councillor Jack Haines condemned the group for its actions, saying “there is no place for such hatred and division”.

He said: “The far-right group that distributed leaflets in Hull this week

end is not welcome in Hull. Racism has no place in our country, and definitely not in our city.

“This is a city proud of its freedom and culture and diversity.

“There is no place for such hatred and division.

“I wholeheartedly condemn this group and hope residents and political figures across the city will join me.

“The country needs to band together, now more than ever to face the Coronavirus pandemic not feed the flames of far-right nationalism.

“They’re doing nothing more than preying on local residents’ Covid19 frustrations. It is wrong and destructive.”

The Patriotic Alternative was formed in September 2019 by British neo-nazi Mark Collett, who was former leader of the British National Party Youth.

Residents agreed that leaflets promoting such “utterly racist” theories were not welcome through their doors.

“If I get one I’ll keep it in case there is a toilet roll shortage,” one woman commented.

One man who received a leaf

let said: “Our dog shredded ours”, while another commented: “Can’t complain. Leaflets are good firelighters for my log burner.”
