‘Risky’ city-centre pub closes as staff test positive for Covid-19
OWNERS INSIST THEY HAVE FOLLOWED GUIDELINES
A POPULAR city centre pub has closed for 14 days after two staff members tested positive for Covid.
The Ebenezer Morley pub in Anlaby Road, opposite the Admiral of the Humber, has shut its doors for a deep clean.
One customer, who does not want to be named, has questioned the measures in place to protect the pubs customers.
He said: “I used to drink in there on a regular basis, but after seeing the breaches in this pub since it reopened I have decided not to use the place anymore.
“I feel this pub is one of the reasons why will be moving on to a higher tier as there is clearly no respect for the rules during this pandemic. Customers are being put at risk and I feel this pub should stay closed.”
The pub is run by company Amber taverns, which confirmed the closure after staff tested positive, but insists all the rules and guidelines have been followed.
A spokesman said: “We have a robust systems in place regarding Covid-19 include an outbreak plan.
“The Ebenezer Morley had a member of staff report that they had symptoms and refrained from attending work, later testing positive.
“The Outbreak Plan identifies an outbreak as two positive cases linked by time and location.
“Late on Thursday, October 22, a further member of staff confirmed a positive test. This then prompted the outbreak plan to be implemented and the premises to be closed for 14 days.
“Deep clean protocols have been implemented and a physical clean and fogging will be implemented.
“All the required protocols have been followed to protect the staff, customers and the wider community.”
The latest closure, carried out voluntarily, follows the news other pubs in the city have been forced to close or follow tighter procedures by Hull City Council.
Brownies, in Anlaby Road, was told to close for up to 22 days and implement new measures although owner Richard Brown hopes he can reopen on Saturday if given the go ahead.
Meanwhile, The Alley, in Cottingham Road, north Hull, was also told to close the previous week.
Skippers, in Grampian Way, north Bransholme, has been told to follow safety rules imposed by the local authority or face further action.
The Ebenezer Morley is due to reopen on Friday, November 6.
