Cator: We can’t let Rovers get the better of us, there’s no excuses

-

HULL FC’S Joe Cator doesn’t need telling about the Hull derby and how important it is that the Black and Whites see off their cross-city rivals tomorrow night.

Cator, a boyhood FC fan, has been to his fair share of derbies over the years, supporting Hull from the South Stand at the KCOM Stadium or the away end at Craven Park.

As such, it was one of the first matches he looked for when the fixtures were released ahead of the start of the season, but this won’t be his first taste of derby action.

Of course, Cator started his career with Hull KR and played at hooker against FC at the KCOM Stadium in 2018, a game Rovers won thanks to tries from FC old boys Craig Hall and Danny Tickle.

This will be the first time he straps up for the clash in the colours of the club he supported as a boy, though, and despite the game being played behind closed doors, he can’t wait.

“When I was there I was doing a job for them,” Cator told the Mail. “It will make it a bit sweeter and I want to beat them that bit more now that I’m at the right club and the one I supported. I know what it feels like being sat in the South Stand and what it feels like for the fans because I’ve been one of them. I know how important it is to the full city, but we can’t let them turn us over, there’ll be no excuse at all.

“I know they’ll be watching at home. You’re not going to be walking out with fireworks like at the start of the season with 24,000 at the KCOM, we know that.

“But we have a job to do and it doesn’t change when you’re on the field playing, you’re in the zone anyway, we’ll just play how we know how to play and carry our form with us onto the pitch. I think these past few games it’s started to click.”
