30 Under 30 is set to recognise young talent

THE search is on for the Humber’s Top 30 Under 30 in 2021. After a year like no other, the hunt for the best young employees in the region returns for a fourth successive outing, with programme founder Simon Jones confident bosses will already have their rising stars in mind.

Top 30 Under 30 shines a light on those who make a real difference in their organisations, with representation across the board, from SMES to global corporations.

Mr Jones said: “This year, as a whole, has been useful to see who stands up and goes above and beyond when needed. From what I understand there have been a lot of young people who have stepped up to the plate when the business needed them. In particular, engagement with new technology, training other members of the team and getting them adapted to new ways of working.

“The focus for next year will be to ensure that we reward these people who really did stand up and be counted when times were challenging. These people who have already given a glimpse to their managers that they have leadership material, those they want to retain in their businesses.

“It is about individuals who have stepped up to the mark, these are the candidates I expect to see.”

Nominations will be accepted until January 15, when a panel featuring past alumni, Marketing Humber managing director Diana Taylor and For Entrepreneurs Only chief executive Jan Brumby will assess the submissions.

The class of 2020 featured representatives from the likes of DFDS, Ideal Boilers, Ideal Standard, Lincoln and York, Siemens Gamesa and Smith & Nephew.

They came from marketing, communications, accounts, supply chain, sales, development, design and engineering roles.

Top 30’s leadership programme has been truncated having had a delayed start due to lockdown, but Mr Jones is proud of how they all adapted - clearly a trait that will serve them well.

He said: “It was very different this year, the challenges we are facing, even running the sessions, is not like anything we could have predicted.

“The feedback has been pretty amazing from the group and they have been supportive of everything we have been doing, and they are getting value out of the programme.

“There would have been no point doing it if we couldn’t get to a certain level and we have validated it from that perspective. I hope that all will recognise it as a successful year, given that a lot of things have been concentrated, written off or put on hold.

“We haven’t done the bells and whistles, but the man value piece for the individuals , we have been able to deliver and that I’m pleased with.

“I’d like to hope that next year will be more in line with what I expect normal to be.”
