Nine Covid-related deaths in the past week

-

HULL’S hospitals have announced another coronavirus-related death, which means there have been nine in the past week.

There were no deaths recorded at either Hull Royal Infirmary or Castle Hill on Wednesday, but yesterday Hull Universities Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust revealed a patient died on Tuesday, October 27.

It comes after the Mail reported on Monday how for the first time in a few months, the trust had announced three deaths in one day. The total number of hospital deaths in our region now stands at 231.

The latest death comes as it was announced Hull and the East Riding will move to Tier 2, which will mean tougher coronavirus restrictions.

The region will move into the “high risk” category from 12.01am on Saturday, October 31.

The number of cases in Hull have soared once more with 170 new cases on Thursday, meaning the total number stands at 3,744.

There have been 141 new cases recorded in the East Riding, now making a total of 4,670, government figures showed on Tuesday. The rate per 100,000 in Hull is now at 1,441.2 and 1,368.8 in the East Riding.

Meanwhile, the Government said a further 280 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of yesterday. This brings the UK total to 45,955.

Separate figures published by the UK’S statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, show there have now been 61,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government said that, as of 9am on Thursday, there had been a further 23,065 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK. It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 965,340.
