Some Hull couples facing ‘sex ban’ under Tier 2 lockdown rules

CAN I have sex under Tier 2 lockdown?

Interesting question. The Government has set out clear rules that establish a “sex ban” in certain areas to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

If you are living under Tier 2 lockdown - as Hull and East Riding residents will be from 12.01am on Saturday - you cannot have sex with anyone you do not live with.

The rules were established by the Government, meaning sex with anyone outside your household, or support bubble, is not allowed under Tier 2 and Tier 3 restrictions.

Even if you are in an established relationship, the ban still applies if your partner does not live with you or is not in your bubble.

In both Tier 2 and Tier 3, it is against the law to socialise with people outside of your household or bubble in any indoor setting.

The rule of six applies to gatherings outdoors and people must maintain social distancing.

Boris Johnson’s official spokesman said people should “behave in the manner of” the tier which applies to their area as he defended the ‘sex ban’ for Tier 2 and

Tier 3.

He said: “You should mix with your own household only unless you’ve formed a support bubble, and obviously that does apply to some couples.”

“The purpose of the measures we’ve put in place is to break the chain of transmission between households,” he said.

“The scientific advice is there is greater transmission of the virus indoors.”

Before the tier rules were announced, the government had already encouraged people to avoid casual sex and, in September, health secretary Matt Hancock had urged Britons to comply.

During a Sky News appearance Haddock said people need to “be careful” and “sensible” and comply with government guidelines when it comes to having sex.
