WOLFWALKERS
HHH
HUMANITY’S combative relationship with Mother Nature sparks civil unrest in Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart’s enchanting and beautifully drawn animated coming-of-age fable.
Young apprentice hunter Robyn Goodfellowe (voiced by Honor Kneafsey) is determined to honour her father Bill (Sean Bean) by travelling with him to Ireland to exterminate the last surviving wolf pack. Venturing outside city walls to explore the forbidden lands, Robyn encounters a free spirit called Mebh Mactire (Eva Whittaker), whose tribe can metamorphose into wolves.
Mebh is on a quest to find her missing mother and Robyn joins the search. In the process, the two girls tumble headfirst into a world of enchantment that could transform Robyn into one of the beasts that her father Bill has pledged to destroy.
SHIRLEY (15) HHH
DIRECTOR Josephine Decker abandons the conventions of a literary biopic to craft an imaginative portrait of one of the great horror writers of the 20th century.
Shirley Jackson (Elisabeth Moss) lives with her volatile husband Stanley (Michael Stuhlbarg) in 1950s Vermont. It’s a tempestuous relationship and Shirley devotes her time to writing what she believes will be her masterpiece.
Her creative flow is staunched by the unwelcome arrival of Stanley’s teaching assistant Fred (Logan Lerman) and his wife Rose (Odessa Young). They take up temporary residence in the Jackson home and are a source of irritation for Shirley. Once the men depart, Shirley becomes fascinated with newlywed Rose and they conspire to shatter traditional gender roles of the era.
