HULL FC star Albert Kelly has written an emotional goodbye to the club’s fans after it was confirmed he has been granted an early release from his contract.

The 29-year-old was due to leave the Black and Whites at the end of the season after spending six years living in Hull, four of those playing for FC and the first two at Hull KR.

Having sustained the latest hamstring injury in a campaign that has seen a number of setbacks, Kelly has been ruled out for the season.

Unable to play on, the standoff has asked to leave early to continue his rehab in Australia, with FC confirming his release has been granted.

“The family is really excited about going home and our family back home are looking forward to seeing us all again,” said Kelly. “I am really disappointed that I will not get to pull on the black and white jersey one last time, but unfortunately I’m just not right to play yet.

“I would have loved to get out there against Hull KR, my old club, as the derbies are always special games and Hull has been a great club for me.

“I’m very grateful to the club for everything they have done for me and allowing me and my family to head home and get settled before we embark on the next chapter in our lives.”

Kelly arrived in Hull from Gold Coast Titans, penning a two-year deal with Rovers where he made an instant impact, winning the player of the year accolade in 2015.

Departing Craven Park at the conclusion of his deal in 2016, he made controversial but short journey to West Hull and was a key figure in helping FC regain the Challenge Cup in 2017.

“Hull will always be a special place for us, we have made some great memories and some great friends at both clubs,” added Kelly.

“We had our son here, so it will always be special to us and perhaps one day we will come back with him when the kids are older, watch a few games and show them where he is from.

“I’d like to wish all the boys and the staff the best of luck for the future and thank everyone who has supported us during our time in Hull.”

FC and Kelly part on good terms, with the Black and White thought to be looking to bring in a new half-back for next season, a search that has intensified following the injury to Jamie Shaul which could see Jake Connor moved to full-back for a large part of next season.
