1,111 COVID-19 CASES IN TWO DAYS
HULL RANKED AMONG THE COUNTRY’S WORST HOTSPOTS EVEN MORE PATIENTS WITH VIRUS THAN THE FIRST WAVE HELP OUR HOSPITAL HEROES
MORE than 1,000 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed this weekend as the pandemic continues to accelerate through the population of Hull and the East Riding.
Latest figures released by the Government yesterday revealed that 584 more people have Covid-19, compared to 24 hours ago.
On Saturday, 527 case were announced meaning 1,111 new cases over the weekend.
It comes as Hull was ranked seventh nationally in the latest seven-day rolling rate statistics published by the Government.
Over the weekend, Hull and the East Riding have totalled 651 and 460 new cases respectively.
In Hull, 6,147 positive tests have now been carried out since the pandemic began after an increase of 342 on Sunday alone.
2,366 people in every 100,000 in the city are known to have had the virus according to the cumulative infection rate.
In the neighbouring East Riding, 6,576 positive diagnoses have been confirmed after a rise of 242 on Sunday. The rate there is 1,927.5.
The alarming figures tally with the sad news that six deaths linked to coronavirus were confirmed between Hull Royal Infirmary or Castle Hill Hospital yesterday - the two hospitals covered by the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. All six were announced on Saturday.
Hull now ranks as the seventh worst local authority area in the UK with a Covid-19 infection rate of 596.7.
North East Lincolnshire is fifth with 599.1 Just Oldham (780), Wigan (650.5), Merthyr Tydfil (649.8) and Salford (614.7) sit higher.
Nationally, the number of coronavirus patients to die in hospital has risen by 151.
Health authorities announced the figure on Sunday, which includes 122 deaths in England.
The daily death toll figure has doubled in a month after 28 people were confirmed dead as a result of Covid-19 on October 8.
In the past 24 hours the number of confirmed global cases passed 50 million, while the death toll stands at around 1.25 million.
