THE extent of the carnage caused when a “50-shot” box of fireworks was launched through an Orchard Park car window has been revealed.

Firefighters rushed to Cladshaw, off Orchard Park Road, on Friday night after a car was set alight in what a neighbour called a “deliberate” act.

Residents have blamed “feral kids” for a wave of serious damage caused across the area over the past few days, which also included the destruction of a home in Thorpepark Road when a firework was launched through a letterbox.

In Cladshaw, a neighbour reported hearing “the loudest bangs” of fireworks when she was watching TV. After going outside, she discovered a silver BMW ablaze.

Pictures taken at the scene on Saturday morning show the inside of the car was completely destroyed and the back window was smashed.

A large box of exploded fireworks could also be seen alongside it.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they believed the destruction was caused by the explosives.

“Just been sat watching TV and heard the loudest bangs of fireworks. I looked out the window and noticed the fireworks going wrong,” the neighbour said.

“The fireworks were hitting someone’s house and it set a car on fire.

“This was done deliberately. Someone smashed the back window of a car, threw a box of 50-shot fireworks through the window and lit it.

“Luckily everyone had quickthinking of getting a hose to put the blaze out before the fire brigade got there. A kid was seen riding off on his bike.”

The latest firework-related blaze follows the serious house fire in Thorpepark Road in which three family pets were killed.

The crime wave has sparked a furious reaction online with many in the city calling for action.

“This is getting ridiculous. A full home set alight yesterday, now this. Clearly too many feral kids around Orchard Park estate. Parents need to get them in line.

Meanwhile a second said: “It’s disgusting. I had one of my windows smashed earlier today for no apparent reason, so now having to pay to replace it.

“Horrible people around these days with no care for anyone other than themselves.”

Confirming their attendance in Cladshaw, a spokeswoman for the fire service said: “We attended a car fire on Cladshaw, but it was extinguished by the owner prior to our arrival.

“We were called at 7.44pm. We had one engine in attendance.

“They believe it was caused firework.” by a
