MCCANN’S SEARCHING FOR MAGIC

TIGERS’ BOSS EYES ANOTHER HOME CUP CLASH AND THEN GLAMOUR TIE

HULL City boss Grant Mccann is hoping for a touch of luck as well as some of the magic of the FA Cup as he sets his sights on a glamour tie and a cash boost.

Mccann is keen for another home tie in the second round when the draw is made this evening, with progress in the cup a target for the Tigers to sit alongside their League One promotion aim.

City secured safe passage into round two after overcoming Fleetwood Town on Saturday, courtesy of a goal in each half from Josh Magennis and Reece Burke, the defender’s first for the club.

Having suffered game-ending injuries to Ched Evans and Harvey Saunders, Fleetwood never threatened the Tigers in a game the hosts dominated at the KCOM Stadium, gaining revenge for their league defeat at Highbury last month.

City will be ball number 28 when the draw is made shortly after 7pm this evening, and Mccann hopes his League One promotion challengers will be handed a favourable tie when the balls are drawn out, to give them a chance of making round three and the possibility of setting up a glamour tie against Premier League opposition.

“I think the FA Cup’s a great competition,” said boss Mccann.

“I’d like round two to be a wee bit kinder to us because in each round of the cup so far, we’ve had really tough games, probably the toughest you can have when we talk about the League Cup and the FA Cup. We’re hoping for another home tie to get into round three when the big boys come in.”

Progress through to the second round is worth a minimum of £25,500 to City, with a potential third-round win worth over £100,000 in total, while also increasing the possibility of a big financial injection from a television game.

The proposed date for the second round of the competition is scheduled to be between 27/30 November, coming after City face Harrogate in the Football League Trophy, and League One games against Burton Albion, MK Dons and Ipswich Town.
