MORE than £3,500 and a container full of household d items have been donated to a family who lost everything in a house fire.

Kindhearted residents s in Orchard Park have e rallied together to help out ut a family who were left ft homeless after a firework k was thrown through their ir letterbox.

Firefighters were called d out to Thorpe park Road on Bonfire Night where two wo houses were ablaze.

All occupants managed ed to get out in time, with one ne man being treated for burns and smoke inhalation at the scene.

The fire caused devastating damage to the property, leaving the family with nothing, and killed three household pets.

Nearby residents decided to step up to try and help get the family back on their feet.

Alan Jones, 30, lives two streets away and saw the “carnage” unfold before his eyes.

He told the Mail he “couldn’t sit back and leave them with nothing” so decided to set up a fundraising

page, which hi h h has raised i d more than h £2,000 so far.

Alan also has a container full of household items after people turned up at this house to donate what they could for the family.

“It has been a busy weekend,” said Alan. “The fundraising is going really well.

“Friday morning I was sorting a hire van from Foxy Rentals and a storage container from TITAN, which is full.

“People have brought us everything from beds, washing machines, fridges, you name it.”

“People have been turning up with bags of clothes and toys for the kids. One couple turned up with a toaster they had just bought from Tesco.”

Tesco has also donated £150 to each family affected by the fire and Morrisons is also offering £50 free shopping.

Alan is now also trying to get in touch with a carpet fitter to see if they can also help.

Cara Davies, 32, said the incident “broke my heart” and has also set up a crowdfunding page, which has raised more than £1,500.

She also says the arson has left her feeling “really

insecure” in her own home.

“There are so many bad things happening on Orchard Park at the moment,” she said to the Mail on Friday.

“No one feels safe anymore due to the youths controlling the area.

“This broke my heart. I feel really upset for them.

“How can people be so cruel?” Residents say antisocial behaviour in Orchard Park has been a problem for some time.

Humberside Police confirmed that a 19-year-old man had been arrested over the suspected arson and are continuing to investigate.

But the efforts by Orchard Park residents to help the family out is proof there are “good people” on the estate, said Alan.

“It is good to see there is decent people out there,” he said.

“The little scrotes here give everyone a bad name. You only see the bad things in the media about Orchard Park, but there are certainly good people here.”
