A MAP showing the coronavirus rates in different areas across East Yorkshire makes for depressing reading on first glance.

But a closer look and you will see small shafts of light at the end of the tunnel.

The map displays Public Health England (PHE) data with the rates of infection in different areas and which ones have been hit the hardest.

It is colour coded from white, where the virus is being suppressed, through to green, where cases are low, and then through gradually darker shades of blue, as the numbers increase, and finally to a claret colour.

That claret colour dominates the map in East Yorkshire, but there are a few places which have seen a drop in cases over a seven-day period.

The map also provides the sevenday rolling rates are calculated by dividing the seven-day count by the area population and multiplying by 100,000.

Hull has topped the table for the worst area for the weekly rate of infection which, as of Friday, stood at 743.3.

It is the only area currently with a rate exceeding 700 with the national under 200. But while the current situation looks gloomy, it is not all bad.

The Mail takes a look at the areas which have seen a drop in cases in the last seven days ending on November 9.

In Hull there are a few areas which have seen a reduction in cases over the week.

■ Newington has seen an impressive drop in cases of ten and now has 46 cases. It has a rolling rate of 572.9.

University and Newland North has seen six fewer cases in the past week and now has 39 cases with a rolling rate of 559.9.

Greatfield has seen one less case over a week compared to the previous week with the number of cases standing at 38. It has a rolling rate of 516.

■ Bransholme Central has also seen one case fewer than the previous week and currently has 49 cases with a rolling rate of 612.

The East Riding also has a few areas which have experienced a drop in cases.
