FOOTBALL centre Goals has announced the permanent closure of its site in Hull.

In a statement on the company’s website, a spokesperson said Hull had been identified as a “profitability risk” last year and that the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic had pushed it over the edge.

The company, which has 43 other locations across the UK, said it was “disappointed” and “saddened” to close the centre in Innovation Drive, off Clough Road.

The spokesperson said: “We are saddened to announce that Goals Hull has closed permanently as of November 5, 2020.

“Goals have been proud to serve the local community over the years, welcoming players young and old through the doors every week. We are disappointed to have had to take this course of action, but it is unavoidable in the current climate.

“When Goals PLC was acquired out of administration by Northwind 5s LTD in November 2019, a review of assets was undertaken, identifying Goals Hull as a profitability risk.

“Strategic plans were put in place to keep the club open, initially preserving jobs and continuing our premium offering of small sided football in Hull.

“Unfortunately, with a global pandemic and the associated economic downturn and other external factors out of the company’s control, it became apparent that the club was no longer a viable business.

“Businesses across every sector have suffered as a result of the pandemic and Goals remain focused on the continued success of the wider business with 43 other locations across the UK.

“We would like to thank all of customers, players and staff for their loyalty and dedication. We are working to redeploy staff where practical and are offering support and references to help them secure jobs during this uncertain period.”
