HULL has seen its joint-deadliest day since the pandemic began as the city continues to battle against coronavirus.

The city remains the worst affected city in terms of the weekly Covid-19 infection rate, which has jumped to more than 770 in every 100,000 people having tested positive.

After new figures were released by NHS England yesterday, revealing the latest deaths, Sunday, November 15 was identified as the level-worst day in Hull and the East Riding since the pandemic began.

In total, eight patients in either Hull Royal Infirmary or Castle Hill Hospital died on Sunday within 28 days of contracting Covid19.

Eight deaths also happened on Tuesday, November 10.

The unwanted record stands above April 24 when seven people died on a single day during the first wave.

Yesterday, Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust confirmed that six more people had lost their life to the virus, all of which occurred on Sunday.

The two additional deaths were recorded in Monday’s figures.

Further deaths from Sunday could still be confirmed when the hospital trust issues its daily figures today.

The current East Yorkshire death toll stands at 292.

It comes after a third member of hospital staff in our area lost her life to Covid-19.

Nicola Diles had been diagnosed with coronavirus and died at Hull Royal Infirmary on Sunday.

Nicola, who has been described as a “highly valued” colleague, friend and family member, passed away in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit where she was being treated.
