FC need mammoth effort to beat Wigan

AND I’LL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO BE PROVED WRONG IF THEY REACH THE GRAND FINAL

-

Hull FC are in a play-off semi-final. I mean you get a late invite to the party and head home with the most attractive girl comes to mind should FC win the Grand Final at their own home.

Let’s not gloss over their first win in eight play-off games either mind you.

The Andy Last brigade that called for another coach appointment immediately after Lee Radford was dismissed are all a little keyboard shy at handing some praise out to the head coach.

The win over Warrington was a proper win, a dominant win, a gritty win, featuring defensive steel and clinical attack.

So make no mistake about it, Last’s Black and Whites, the players are a confident bunch heading to table-topping Wigan for their semifinal tomorrow.

It’ll be another mammoth effort away from home to pick up another win at Wigan, of course, but it certainly wouldn’t be a major shock should we be looking forward to a Hull FC home Grand Final next week.

And I’ll say this, I had a little chuckle at the Scott Taylor article pre-match on how the players can gain immortality by winning a Grand Final from sixth spot.

I wasn’t convinced they could win last week, but I’m more than happy to say I was wrong should Taylor and Hull FC go on and win a Grand Final.

Winning a semi-final is special, it takes bravery, character, skill and belief.

I was part of the last team to do so for the Black and Whites, and played in that Grand Final holy grail.

However, I’ll warn the players of one thing, don’t over celebrate a semi-final win, just quietly celebrate it should you achieve it and know it’s one more job done.

I say that as part of a team that didn’t over-celebrate it, a team that got together after that night in 2006 and said to ourselves that it was only one more game ticked off.

I wish the players the best of luck at Wigan, here’s hoping to a semifinal win and writing again about a Grand Final build up next week.
