What can KR fans expect from Muizz?

-

THE youngster came through the Rhinos academy and helped the under-19s reach the Grand Final in 2018.

Mustapha signed professional terms with Leeds at the start of 2019 after starring for England Academy in their series win over the Australian Schoolboys.

He made his Rhinos debut against Workington Town in the Challenge Cup last year and featured twice in Super League after the restart, while he has also gained experience playing for Featherstone Rovers, Dewsbury Rams and Newcastle Thunder.

What will he bring?

Mustapha is regarded as a tough, aggressive young forward - fearless with ball in hand and unafraid to put his body on the line in defence.

Albert Vete and Mustapha are welcome additions to a pack that was too often dominated in 2020.

His areas for improvement are said to be fitness and a greater understanding of systems around the ruck.

Any connections?

Mustapha came through the same junior club as Anesu Mudoti and the pair will enjoy a Hunslet Warriors reunion at Craven Park.

Matt Parcell was in the Leeds side when Mustapha made his debut, with Ryan Hall and Jimmy Keinhorst also at the Rhinos as Mustapha established himself in the academy. Mustapha played alongside Owen Harrison during his time with Dewsbury and Mikey Lewis at Newcastle.

Verdict

Rovers were crying out for a player in Mustapha’s mould this season, somebody who can get under the skin of his opposite numbers with hard, honest rugby.

While Mustapha clearly has a lot to learn at Super League level, he wears his heart on his sleeve and his attitude and commitment should quickly see him become a fans’ favourite.

After the signings of Vete and Ryan Hall, Mustapha is another good addition for the 2021 season.
