In a year like no other ... it’s time to celebrate the best in business
NOMINATIONS FOR THIS YEAR’S BUSINESS AWARDS
WE’RE closing in on crowning the winners of the Hull Daily Mail | Hull Live Business Awards.
Resilience and determination in the face of adversity stood out for our panel of judges who gathered to assess 2020’s entries - a year like no other in the two decades the awards now span.
Praise for young entrepreneurs listed alongside prominent backbones of the regional economy was lavished by the panel, who analysed the submissions for the sought after accolades.
Now, in a year when opportunity emerged from desperation, and pure survival was a measure of success, the finalists can today be revealed.
Diana Taylor, managing director of Marketing Humber, said: “The entries have really demonstrated the resilience of our businesses in what has been a tough year.
“There were a lot of good start-ups and young entrepreneurs - people are clearly having to become entrepreneurial, matching what we know.”
Her thoughts were echoed by Alan Worthing, head of sales at KCOM.
He said: “The process has demonstrated the challenges that are out there. Recognition of the opportunities presented was clear in some of the entries, particularly with some of the start-ups, and there are clearly a lot of them.
“The volume of young entrepreneurs was encouraging, those willing to try new things.
“We’ve also seen resilience too, the
larger more established businesses, through difficult times have still innovated and kept going at pace.”
For Jan Brumby, chief executive of For Entrepreneurs Only, there were some clear winners in categories, while others proved more challenging to separate.
She said: “It has been nice to see some new faces, businesses that haven’t entered before. There were some outstanding entries, and some very crowded categories, for example for those working through adversity and the small business accolade.”
Subject to coronavirus restrictions, the event will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Hull on March 11, with BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin to host once again.
