Working tirelessly to represent the sector

THE Lifetime Contribution Award is the only accolade not judged by our expert panel. It is an award given to someone whose impact on the Hull and East Yorkshire region knows no bounds – someone who has worked tirelessly to represent, promote and drive the business sector.

The list of previous winners is, unsurprisingly, a prestigious one.

Jim Dick was the inaugural recipient, having forged a long career with Smith & Nephew.

He was followed in 2013 by Paul Sewell OBE, before MKM’S David Kilburn won the award in 2014.

Five years ago, Kingston Recruitment’s Victoria Jackson MBE was recognised, with eponymous engineering boss Charlie Spencer, Gosschalks Solicitors senior partner Simon Lunt, and Lord Haskins taking 2018’s title.

Last year, it was bestowed upon Andrew Horncastle, a week before his trip to the palace to collect his MBE.

From heading up family business Horncastle Group and promoting young entrepreneurs across the region, to playing a leading role in the formation of the Humber LEP, the name is one which carries a lot of respect.

He has overseen the company’s growth from a £3m company into a £50m venture, building a workforce of more than 600 people.

A passionate Yorkshireman, Andrew has worked tirelessly over the years to both promote and support the Humber region.

“I think Hull has got a great, broad range of businesses, and that is something we should hold onto,” he said, after collecting his award.

“I think we need big, bold visions for the region. That is why Tim Rix’s Lagoon project, whether it happens or not, has been fantastic.

“It is a transformational project.

“There are SMES doing some brilliant work, and through FEO I have met some inspirational entrepreneurs.”

Outside of the world of business, Andrew has supported charities Daisy Appeal, Catzero and Prince’s Trust.

Andrew’s status and dedication to the Humber’s business sector saw him named in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
