Another 435 Covis cases in our region

-

ANOTHER 435 coronavirus cases have been recorded our region as Hull continued to top the charts for the worst weekly infection rates in the country.

The latest Government figures, released yesterday saw Hull record another 260 daily coronavirus cases to a total of 9,031 since the start of the pandemic.

That is a rate per 100,000 people in the city of 3,476.4 cases since the pandemic began, nearly one case for every 28 people in the city.

The East Riding also saw a sharp daily increase of 175 new cases, to a total of 8,644, but its larger population size means its rate per 100,000 has remained lower than Hull’s and now stands at 2,533.6.

The more relevant infection rates, however, are the most recent weekly figures released by the Government, which show how many people have contracted the virus in the most recently recorded seven-day time period.

In the seven days up to Sunday, November 15, there were 1,944 coronavirus cases confirmed in Hull.

That means our infection rate per 100,000 people in that time remains far and away the highest in the UK and has increased from 735.6 in the week to November 8 to 748.3 in the week up to Sunday, November 15.

Nationally, the Government said a further 501 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Thursday, bringing the UK total to 53,775.

The Government said that, as of 9am yesterday, there had been a further 22,915 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 1,453,256.
